Blossoms Among the Ruins---When Afton Villa Plantation burned to the ground in 1963, nothing much remained but the gardens.  Genevieve and Morrell Trimble saw the 250 acres of rubble and overgrown landscape, fell in love with it, and in 1972, embarked on their huge 20-year project to restore the lost gardens.

Afton Villa is open from March 1 - June 30 and October 1 - November 30th of each year. 

Museum showcases the history of Angola Prison, Louisiana's State Penitentiary, the nation's largest maximum-security facility. The prison was built on the grounds of an old plantation, and still operates a working farm. The museum includes displays of guard equipment, confiscated contraband items from prisoners, and written accounts from guards and prisoners alike.

Rodeos are held on the third Saturday & Sunday in April & every Sunday in October

Annual Audubon Pilgrimage, held the third weekend in March, celebrates a southern spring in St. Francisville. West Feliciana Historical Society has thrown open the doors of significant historic structures to commemorate  artist-naturalist John James Audubon’s stay. 

Highlights; West Indies plantation home, hands-on museum, trails, herb gardens, slave quarters, barn with animals and out-buildings, such as a kitchen. To do: Guided plantation tour, visit out-buildings & barn, hiking & birding trails, photograph scenic views, picnic and talk with "Gus," the live turkey which roams the grounds.
